The candidate was presented with the following questions. The responses are printed as received and have not been edited by Staff Congress.
1. What do you perceive as the responsibilities of the Staff Regent?
To effectively communicate staff members’ issues and suggestions to the Board of Regents.
2. Do you understand the governance of the Board of Regents and how you would serve in that capacity? Explain.
As a Staff Regent, it is crucial to attend quarterly BOR meetings and share important details with fellow staff members. As a representative and advocate, it is your responsibility to ensure that the voices of staff members are heard. A Staff Regent does vote in BOR meetings, but he or she must remember that the vote belongs to all staff members and it is not about one individual staff member, but rather about all of us.
3. Serving as Staff Regent requires time commitments during the normal work hours (8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.), nights and weekends. Are you aware of the time commitment involved, and will you be able to devote this time and still perform your regular work duties?
Yes
4. Describe the most important work or University service experiences which will assist you in being an effective Staff Regent.
As a member of the Staff Congress, I have had the privilege of serving on the Survey Committee. Through my analysis of the data we collected, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of what staff members truly need and desire. With this valuable insight, I am well-equipped to advocate for policies and initiatives that will effectively address the concerns of our colleagues and contribute to a more positive and productive work environment.
5. Have you served in campus governance before and if so, how long and in what capacity? (example Staff Congress, Faculty/Staff Insurance and Benefits Committee, etc.)
Staff Congress 2 Years
6. If elected regent, what will be your top goals to benefit MSU staff?
As a leader, it is crucial for me to prioritize certain goals to ensure a positive and productive work environment. My top priorities include promoting transparency amongst staff members by being open and honest about all issues, actively listening to their concerns and collaborating with admin to find effective solutions, and finding ways to help them achieve a healthy work-life balance. By prioritizing these goals, I aim to create a working environment where everyone feels heard, supported, and valued.
