Have you served on Staff Congress before? Yes
If so, how long did you serve?1 term

The candidate was presented with the following questions. The responses are printed as received and have not been edited by Staff Congress.

1. Why would you like to serve on Staff Congress?
I was flattered when I was elected to Staff Congress for my first term and I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to help my fellow staff members out when they’ve had issues or challenges.
While the wheels of progress never turn as quickly as we’d like, I feel that I’ve been able to play a small part in helping staff in various ways. Whether it be a policy review or helping tweak an event to make it more accessible, I try to keep various viewpoints in mind as I try to contribute to a solution. If re-elected, I’d like to continue to find ways to help staff feel more connected to Staff Congress, as well as looking for opportunities to help break down the ever-present silos that exist at Murray State (as they do in any large organization).
As we head into the Fall ‘21 semester, I feel that Murray State has enormous potential for growth and success and I would be honored to continue representing the staff in this important role.
2. Please list work experience and community involvement. Experience:
-Director, Murray State Career Services (2017 – present)
-14 years of higher education experience
-Other experience in manufacturing, technology, healthcare, and retail consulting
-Education: MBA + Bachelor of Science in Marketing
Community Involvement:
-Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce
-Leadership Murray program (2019-present)
-Murray Works Workforce Development Committee
-Calloway County School District volunteer
-Regular guest speaker at Calloway County and Murray SD’s, along with other community organizations in WKY
-Involved in National Association of Colleges & Employers and Southern Association of Colleges & Employers

Matt is a candidate in the Executive/Managerial/Professional category.
