Have you served on Staff Congress before? No
If so, how long did you serve?NA

The candidate was presented with the following questions. The responses are printed as received and have not been edited by Staff Congress.

1. Why would you like to serve on Staff Congress?
Murray State University is my alma mater and I’d like to see us stay competitive academically. In order to do that, we need to keep good people and good workers. Good workers should be treated well, and receive a good living wage. I want to make sure we don’t lose any more of our Murray State family. I realize I can’t do this alone. What I can do is offer a voice to help push us in that direction. In 2005 I came to Murray State University to view campus for the first time. I transferred here that same year. I came back to Murray to work after graduating in 2007, chose to study at Murray State for my graduate degree 2012, and came back to Murray State again in 2017 to work here. There is something about Murray State, and about Murray, Kentucky, that keeps bringing me back, bringing me back home. Murray is where I want to put my roots. Keeping Murray State strong and competitive is the best way to do that, and I think it’s best for our community.

2. Please list work experience and community involvement.
I started at Murray State in Dining Services as a Winslow BST and have since transferred to the School of Nursing and Health Professions where I serve as an administrative assistant. Prior to Murray State I worked with Land Between the Lakes Association as a communications apprentice; as an independent landscaper; and for a local publishing company, Prologue, LLC as their editorial coordinator where I aided in the publication a variety of books and wrote for Murray Life magazine.

My past volunteer experience includes helping the mentally handicapped with craft projects as a student at Hopkinsville Community College; volunteering at Land Between the Lakes for trash clean ups, as well as with a variety of events and cleanups at the Homeplace, Nature Station, and Golden Pond Planetarium star parties; working at the local level on political campaigns; as well as serving as the governor’s liaison for Calloway county for a short time.

I would appreciate your vote.

Thank you,
Brian Truskey
