The following answers were provided by the candidate. They appear unedited.
- Why would you like to serve on Staff Congress?
I want to serve on Staff Congress to be a strong, informed voice for off campus employees and to help bridge the gap between the Breathitt Veterinary Center and Murray State’s main campus. Being part of BVC, I have experienced how serving as both a certified diagnostic lab and an educational institution brings about distinct challenges that standard university policies do not always cover. While our work supports animal health, public safety, and student education across the region, working off campus can sometimes leave staff feeling disconnected from the broader university community.
Through service on Staff Congress, I hope to advocate for more equitable access to benefits, clearer communication, and greater inclusion of off campus perspectives in university decision making. Many BVC employees help advance the university’s mission but lack the same engagement, visibility, or support as on-campus staff. Working together, fostering understanding, and ensuring purposeful representation can help narrow these gaps.
My motivation to serve stems from my commitment to fairness, openness, and building meaningful relationships. By fostering understanding between BVC and the main campus, I hope to strengthen our shared sense of community and ensure every staff member—regardless of location—feels informed, respected, and fully valued as part of the Racer family.
