The candidate was presented with the following questions. The responses are printed as received and have not been edited by Staff Congress.
1. What do you perceive as the responsibilities of the Staff Regent?
I perceive two primary responsibilities of the Staff Regent: to inform and be informed.
2. Do you understand the governance of the Board of Regents and how you would serve in that capacity? Explain.
Yes. To the best of my ability, I would represent the staff with any and all matters they deemed necessary to maintain their confidence in the Staff Regent and the Board of Regents through organized and transparent communication.
3. Serving as Staff Regent requires time commitments during the normal work hours (8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.), nights and weekends. Are you aware of the time commitment involved, and will you be able to devote this time and still perform your regular work duties?
Yes
4. Describe the most important work or University service experiences which will assist you in being an effective Staff Regent.
It is difficult to identify any one particular aspect of my work and/or service experience with the University that has been more important than another. However, I believe my current role as Coordinator of First-Year Academic Advising has afforded me the opportunity to collaborate more broadly with the collective campus community and may best assist me in being an effective Staff Regent. In this role, I work strategically with students, staff, and faculty, while supporting the missions of both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. Combined with my prior work experience at the University, this position has equipped me to advocate well for staff.
5. Have you served in campus governance before and if so, how long and in what capacity? (example Staff Congress, Faculty/Staff Insurance and Benefits Committee, etc.)
Yes, I served one three-year term on Staff Congress. During my three-year term, I was also the appointed Staff Representative on the University Judicial Board.
6. If elected regent, what will be your top goals to benefit MSU staff?
If elected staff regent, I have three main goals to benefit staff: 1) provide trustworthy, clear, and consistent representation of staff ideas and concerns through open dialogue with both staff and the Board of Regents; 2) leverage existing University policies and procedures, and suggest revisions when appropriate, to increase efficiencies across campus in an effort to improve morale, reduce individual workloads, and lessen staff burnout; 3) encourage staff to prioritize both mental and physical health and well-being for their own benefit as well as the benefit of our students and campus community.
